I tasted a few things on the dishes that I couldn't put my finger on, and the waiting staff were happy to indulge my curiosity and ask the chef. Tim actually introduced me to the chef do I could pass on my regards. The sommelier matched the wines beautifully. Especially the dessert wines. My only criticism of the meal was that the waiting staff stopped introducing the dishes half way through the meal.
But it had gotten busier.
About Hotel du Vin @ 1 Devonshire Gardens
Also, because of the layout of the dining area-we had to go to the cheese trolley and pick our selection in the hallway. But that's just me being lazy!
After dinner we were invited into the whisky room for an after dinner drink. Tim wrote down the names of the wines I liked and he even let us buy the last 2 bottles of English sparkling!

All in all a first class evening. Expensive maybe but well worth it. I'm already planning our next trip there-probably to one of their wine tastings in march. Ps-we are a young professional couple who fitted into the ambience and decadence well. We love fine dining but hate snobbery. This place created the perfect balance and it definitely lives up to its age old reputation.
Well done! I had antipasti, turkey and a ginger sorbet, coffee in the lounge. Though Glasgow offers a wealth of options and One Devonshire has had a few reincarnations, I'd be happy to dine there again. The day we went for dinner here - last Saturday - was the same day there were stories in the paper about Hotel du Vin and its sister chain, Malmaison, going into administration. It didn't seem to have affected the staff; service was great throughout. My partner had the scallops starter.
Note - scallops, plural. What she actually got was ONE scallop, sliced into three horizontally, cooked as individual pieces and artfully arranged on the plate. That's too much of a mark-up, even for a high-end venue like this. It was a nice dish, but the price was ridiculous. I had the Iberico pork starter, which was great - a better portion and price, too. For mains, my partner had lamb, while I had a daube of beef. I thought they'd spelled it wrong on the menu, because what I got was more like a wee daud of beef.

Good, though - and the sauce that came with it was magnificent. Cheeseboard to follow, with a decent selection to choose from but served in portions that wee Jerry would have turned his nose up at. It's a funny kind of layout - the dining area is spread over about 4 or 5 different rooms. I guess the atmosphere will depend on who else is eating in your particular room, and we were lucky enough - it was a nice, intimate setting without too much background noise. It was a wee treat, and an expensive one, and I don't know if I'd rush back - there are better restaurants in town at lower prices.
But it was good to go, for all that. Own or manage this property? Claim your listing for free to respond to reviews, update your profile and much more. Profile JOIN.
